After a big 1st birthday celebration with family & friends and a birthday trip to Bintan for her 2nd birthday, we decided to keep it simple this year. So, we ended up with no-frill celebrations at school on the eve and Cool de Sac on the actual day!
Unlike the previous 2 years, Emma appreciates birthday celebrations so much more. She looked forward to turning 3 years old and talked about birthday cakes and goodies bags many weeks before her actual birthday. So, we thought it would be nice to (finally) have a celebration at school.
Knowingly how overboard I can be at times, Hubby warned me about keep the celebration at school really simple. He shot down many fun ideas and I'm only allowed to bring in 1 cake and goodies bags. Hence, I thought it be indulging to share my "dream" school celebration here.
Organising Birthday Celebration at Childcare Centre
1. Date
Before all planning begins, choose a date and check with the school for availability. Emma's birthday falls on a Saturday and we celebrated on Friday. Our school has fixed slots for celebration and they coincident with their breakfast and tea break.
2. Cake
Next, start to hunt for birthday cake! Think about what's your budget, design, customized made or off the shelves cakes, size and flavours.
Emma and her school mates were in big treat from Sensational Cakes this round. After shortlisting a new designs and "consulting" Emma, we decided to customize a Minnie Mouse cake. I love that it looks cute and classy without screaming "Minnie Mouse". Everyone in the school sang praises of how it looked and tasted!
The 2-tier cake fed the whole school of about 70 teachers and students. The upper tier was Strawberry and bottom tier was Chocolate. You must try their strawberry if you are a fan, they tasted really good.
Don't forget the candles and knife! We had a No.3 candle but think it would be better if we get 3 pieces of candles as we already had a 3 at the top of the cake. For a moment, Emma was 33 years old. Oops.
3. Party ware
The school asked that we bring along plates, forks and serviette. But, do check with the school if they need you to bring any along.
It would be nice if we could have brought along a table cloth to lay the table, have a mini "Happy Birthday" banner hanging at the front of the table, party hats and a few bunches of balloons to go along! Ok, I should stop coming up with more ideas. To be honest, I think I spent more effort to resist getting them than to actually get them.
4. Goodies Bag
We were contemplating if we should get goodies bag just for her class or the whole centre and decided on the latter. Emma always receive warm greetings from her school mates from different classes and we were told that she loves to have toilet chat with the big brothers and sisters. Thus, it would be sweet to share the joy with all of them.
As such, our budget for each goodies bag drop by 4 times and I got to bid good-bye to themed goodies bag. We gave each student a bag of cute notebook, raisins and a Minnie mouse thank you card. It's the thought that counts right? I heard about generous parents who gifted bags and such. Then again, just work around your budget!
5. Camera
Last but not least, capture the precious memories on the camera! It was pretty stressful for us to have our photos taken as everyone was so excited to dig in. Thankfully, we managed to get some decent shots.
Just be cautious about photographing and posting photos of other children, especially when they are in school uniform as some parents might be sensitive.
We had so much fun celebrating her birthday at the school! Emma was overjoyed, beaming smiles the entire time, and overwhelmed (shy) at the same time. She went classes to classes to distribute the cakes and everyone wished her "Happy Birthday" and "Thank you".
Since we hardly have extended time to interact with the teachers and children, it was a great opportunity to see everyone in action. Totally worth every effort and leave from work to make this celebration happen.
