ZooMoo: It's all animals, all the time + Giveaway!

We received a goodies-filled gift pack from Zoomoo few weeks back!

Emma and her little lamb couldn't resist and came over to check it out. There were ZooMoo drawstrings bags, activity sheet, sticker sheet with the ZooMoo characters, notebook and a band-like USB thumbdrive loaded with a bunch of exciting ZooMoo videos.

After seeing all the items, Emma was all excited! She carried the drawstring bags around the house and played with the stickers.

I don't think the stickers meant to be pasted and matched on the activity book but she identified a few of the animals and went ahead to paste them on the book.

She loves to stick and match things! These days, she keeps saying "yi yang de" (same) when she spotted things/characters that are the same. When she spotted a particular character on the TV or books, she would sometimes hunt down her toys of the same character and show it to us.

From time to time, she really surprised us with how fast she observed, absorbed and learnt things. Apart from the school, I believe she learnt alot from our conversations, play, songs, outings and videos.

I read a couple of articles sharing how we should not expose our young kids to gadgets and we did try very hard to limit that for her first year and so. She wasn't interested in them anyway. However, we slowly added in limited screen time as there were occasions we simply needed some peace to cool down and get things done.

Her favourites are the nursery rhymes and Barney songs videos. We sing with her and highlight certain words or characters in the videos to enhance learning. We usually ask her to say good bye to the characters on the screen and prepped her few mins in advance so that she won't break down into tears and ask for more. I think it would work out fine if we show her good content in moderation and teach her to stop without putting up a fight.

About ZooMoo - StarHub Channel 306

When I heard about ZooMoo, I thought it's a great educational watch for Emma as she loves animals.

ZooMoo explores the animal world in ways that are entertaining, interactive and enriching, sparking in kids a love for animals. It's a collaboration between some of the world's foremost wildlife filmmakers and world renowned early childhood educationalists.

Program Lineup

The ZooMoo program lineup comprises 1,500 self-contained shows, combining spectacular wildlife footage with a range of puppetry, animals, and narrative techniques to create a unique viewing and learning experience for little viewers.

ZooMoo's programming grid or schedule is built on one hour blocks with five themed strands:

1. Explore time
2. Create time
3. Play time
4. Puzzle time
5. Quiet time.

These provide consistency and structure, something educational experts stress is critical for learning and skill-building in young viewers.

New Series: "Lost"

Starting today (16 September, 5pm), ZooMoo is launching a new hair-raising adventure series called "Lost" on StarHub Channel 306.

This brand new series on ZooMoo follows Flash, ZooMoo's resident wildlife photographer who gets lost in different wildlife habitats while he tried to capture award-winning photos.

Back at the headquarters, his pals Owl and Piglet have to help Flash find his way through clues and quizzes about Flash's surroundings.

ZooMoo Second Screen App

There is also a free ZooMoo App where kids can unlock animals and games from the broadcast and add them to ZooMoo island on their tablets. It is an extension of the television screen that is packed with games, puzzles and activities.

This app allows the kids to look after 150 animals on secluded ZooMoo Island. They can take care the animals by feeding their favourite foods, keep animals clean, watch 150 real life videos, learn animals names and sounds... and take photos.

The ZooMoo App collect content from the television using ZooSync technology - no downloads or wifi required.  When the ZooMoo app is turned on, the channel sends original and complimentary content to the tablet. So cool!

This app includes a parent's area that is packed with information about collected animals to help parents engage with their children, talking and learning together. There are no high scores, time limits or stress so the kids can play and learn at their own pace.
